The HSE have provided funding for a 3 year post
of CPD Officer to develop and implement a CPD
programme for the 5 disciplines within Clinical
Measurement Science.
Following interview in Jan of this year I am
delighted to have been allocated this task for
the next 3 years.
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is the
means by which we improve and broaden our
knowledge and skills and develop personal
qualities required for our professional lives.
We
must be able to adapt to the rapidly changing
environment within which we work. The
advancement of technology, new practices,
legislative changes and increased accountability
necessitates continuous learning.
CPD includes attending courses, lectures,
tutorials; seminars as well as time spend in
independent study or research.
Broadly speaking CPD can be broken down in to
the following categories:
-
Professional Activity
-
Education Events
-
Publications
-
Self directed learning
CPD will soon become a vital part of voluntary
registration while we prepare for statutory
registration.
I
will be taking up the post from 7th
March 2011 and my first two objectives will be:-
-
To carry out an analysis of what is being
done at present. This will be completed via
questionnaires. There will be 2
questionnaires, one which I will send to
each of you individually and one to each
head of department. From these I hope to get
an understanding of individual and
departmental requirements for CPD, also for
grade and discipline specific CPD
requirements.
-
When all questionnaires have been evaluated
and collated I will carry out some
information talks/presentations around the
country to inform all members/disciplines of
my findings, and what this will mean in
relation to future CPD requirements and
voluntary registration.
It
is an exciting time for our professions and I
look forward to working with you all in the
coming weeks and months.
